How Can Teenagers Make Money ?

Alright, so maybe you're one of those lucky teenagers that gets allowance every week or every month from your parents. Or maybe you're not, so how do you go about making money when you're a teenager? Everyone knows that teenagers are some of the biggest spenders, but where do they get all of their spending money? The obvious is to beg your parents for money, or beg them to buy you an iPod, a laptop, a particular DVD, a CD, a book or whatnot. But if you continue to read this article you will learn about different ways for teenagers to generate their own income.

The next best thing to asking your parents for money would be to get a part time or summer time job. With the summer just around the corner, and high school about to let out for a few months, you will have the perfect opportunity to get yourself a good summer job. Now the idea of getting a job might not make your heart sing, but everyone goes through the beginning stages of getting their own jobs and they are better off for it. Getting a job will not only give you a source of revenue and cash, but you will also be able to put something on your resume when you apply to full time or internship jobs later on.

The types of jobs that you should apply for depend on what your interests and talents are. If you are great with open, very open and talkative then a job in the service industry might work out well for you. So try to apply for a job at your local grocery store, coffee shop, restaurants, boutiques, fast food joints and any other place that seems like you'd fit in well. You will also want to check out places that might not seem as people oriented, like working as a clerk, at bank, in an office building, as a secretary, etc. If you're not able to secure yourself one of these types of cushy and well paying jobs, you should also consider doing small errands for neighbors and family members, like mowing lawns, raking the leaves, babysitting, being a lifeguard, and so on.

So how should you go about asking for a job, exactly? First pick which few places you'd like to apply to. Then write a general resume, keeping in mind the types of jobs you are going for. Write down each of the skills and past experiences that you've had down in your resume. For example, if you are applying for a store clerk, write down skills that refer to your ability to work with people, be helpful and friendly, be a problem solver and capable of speaking different languages, etc. Try to state how you learned each of these skills, for example if you used to babysit your little sister or brother, note that you learned to listen to and deal with demanding customers or people through babysitting.

Don't be afraid to apply to many different places. You can always tell a certain company later that you've accepted another offer of employment. Once your work starts, get ready to receive your first paycheck and all of the ones following that! Try to save as much of your money as possible, because you will be glad you did in the next few years. Good luck with your job hunt!
