Going back to school after a Christmas Holiday

Most high school students got a nice Christmas break, which they spent eating some nice holiday meals with their family and trying not to get too bored. If you're one of the lucky ones, you probably managed to get out of the house to meet your friends to hang out a bit. But what if you didn't, and now you're not sure what's been happening among your group of friends over the holiday break? Did new relationships form, old ones get broken down? Did you miss out on an unknown opportunity?

A lot can happen during the span of a few weeks, and if you haven't been hanging out with your friends these past weeks and they have continued to meet frequently, the group dynamic might have changed a lot. What does this mean for you? It means that you might have missed your chance at getting your latest crush to notice you, or maybe some of your mutual friends broke up and now they need your shoulder to cry on. Don't worry though, because whatever happened while you were away you will find out about it when all of your friends return to school. But what you want to avoid is saying or doing something that might hurt people if you don't know about the change in situations.

The first thing you should do when you get back to school is ask your best or closest friend what is new with him or her. If anything major or life changing happened to her, she will tell you soon and you will then be able to help her cope with it, or be prepared to accept the consequences of missing out on her life. If it happens that she hooked up or started dating the guy you had your eye on, try not to panic. Most high school relationships don't last for more than a few months, and you won't need to deal with the two of them kissing in front of you if you let your friend know you're not comfortable with it. The key here is always to talk to your friend and make sure she knows what is going through your mind, and why you feel weird when you spend time with her and her new boyfriend.

Are you scared that you won't quite remember what you had been studying before the break? Don't worry, once you've attended a few of your classes, your mind will naturally recall all of the information you had learned in the previous term. Have faith in your mind's ability to remember facts. If you need to get back on track, review your notes from the beginning of the school year. Sometimes just looking over some notes will help jog your memory and you'll be back and better than ever.

So whatever you're worried about with respect to returning to school this January of 2006, don't fret. You'll be back into the swing of things and more great adventures await you at school.
